Oliver Frljić

Theater director and author

Oliver Frljić was born in Bosnia in 1976. He studied at the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Arts. He achieved early recognition with his productions being shown at international festivals, e.g. at the Vienna Festwochen, the MESS Festival in Sarajevo, the BITEF in Belgrade and the Wiesbaden Biennale of European theatre. He was director of the National Theatre in Rijeka from 2015 to 2016 but announced his resignation in spring 2016 in protest at Croatian cultural policy and the political reactions to his directorship. Since then, most of his productions have been shown in German-speaking countries. His production of Heiner Müller’s HAMLETMASCHINE premiered in the Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz, Vienna, in mid-January.
