Registered purpose
The foundation’s purpose is to support its beneficiaries. The foundation achieves its purpose by using income generated from assets that are dedicated to the foundation. The foundation’s purpose is also to conserve and promote the savings bank (Sparkasse) philosophy. ERSTE Foundation is the largest Austrian savings bank foundation. It was created in 2003 from Erste Österreichische Spar-Casse Anteilsverwaltungsparkasse, which had been the direct legal successor of Erste österreichische Sparkasse of 1819. As a private foundation of an Austrian savings bank, it has a duty to engage in charitable action as well as a special role as the main shareholder of Erste Group. It invests the income it receives from its shareholding in social development in Austria and Central and Southeast Europe.
